Paralympians Get on Their Bike for Children's Charity
Words from The Children's Adventure Farm Trust:
Sale Sharks owner, Brian Kennedy, has provided funding to local children’s charity, The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, to enable them to make some important improvements to their facilities. Mr Kennedy has made a donation to the charity through his Trust and is delighted with the results. 2012 Paralympics medal hopefuls, cyclists Sarah & Barney and Storey, were only too pleased to officially accept this kind gift on behalf of the charity of which they are Patrons.
His donation has enabled the charity to purchase a fabulous Ice Cream trike and also to transform two bathrooms used by disabled, terminally ill and disadvantaged children. The Children’s Adventure Farm is based in Millington and provides holidays, daytrips and Christmas Parties to approximately 3,000 children each year at their 10 acre Cheshire site. They rely solely on voluntary contributions and need to raise over £900,000 in 2012 to continue their life-changing work.
Sarah Storey OBE is one of Great Britain’s most decorated and versatile athletes, already holding 7 Paralympic gold medals. Her husband, Barney Storey MBE, is the world’s best sprint tandem pilot and is also a gold medal holder – winning a double gold at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008. They have been Patrons of the charity for many years and are dedicated to helping them to help children in desperate need from all over the North West.

Linda Miles from The Brian Kennedy Trust visited the charity recently to view the new facilities and equipment. She was hugely impressed by the improvements made to the bathrooms which will now provide better access for wheelchair users as well as a safe and brighter environment for all children visiting the charity. She was particularly impressed by the fun and functional Ice Cream trike which will be used around the charity’s 10 acre site to deliver ice creams, cold drinks and snacks to the children as they make the most of their time at the Adventure Farm. Sarah & Barney even tested their cycling skills by taking the trike on a spin around the Farm! They declared it “a little heavier, but definitely tastier” than the bikes they are used to!

Paul Farrington, Chief Executive, CAFT said: “We were so pleased to hear that the Brian Kennedy Trust had decided to make this generous donation to our charity. The money has been spent wisely and will help us to provide the best possible holiday experience for the children visiting us here at the Adventure Farm, which of course is exactly what they deserve! We really can’t thank Mr Kennedy enough for his support, he really will be making a huge difference.”
