BKT Announces Partnership With Home Start
Home-Starts across Greater Manchester support families for a whole range of reasons, from post- natal depression and multiple births through to poor mental health, domestic violence and child poverty. Volunteers walking alongside families, offering emotional and practical support until the day comes when the family is ready to go it alone. We are currently supporting over 500 local families and over 1,700 children. Many of which are facing very difficult and challenging life circumstances.
With child poverty in certain wards across Greater Manchester cited as some of the highest in the country, we are seeing an increase in families not being able to afford the essential household items many other families take for granted. Items such as beds, cookers, fridges and freezers- the lack of these basic fundamentals are causing many of our families to turn to pay day loan companies, or in some cases, go without. The impact of turning to pay day loan companies is huge, what starts off as borrowing £100 soon turns into a huge debt that many families simply cannot afford to pay back, and it spirals out of control. The knock on effect of debt can include an increase in depression, relationship breakdown and poor mental health.
That’s why we are delighted to announce that several of our local Home-Starts in Greater Manchester are fortunate to be working with The Brian Kennedy Trust who have provided several Home-Start families with goods such as beds and white goods. The Brian Kennedy Trust constantly seek opportunities to collaborate with local charities who are working with parents and children whose lives could be improved with some philanthropic help.
This kind and generous offer to help provide much- needed items to some of the most vulnerable families we come into contact with, is life changing. Their friendly and sensitive approach alongside listening to and understanding the individual unique needs and multiple challenges some of our families face is amazing.
